As members of NAKS, we are committed to promoting Kant-scholarship and Kantian philosophy in all its forms. No one who shares these basic aims should be prevented, for monetary reasons only, from joining and participating in NAKS. Yet, at the same time, as a relatively small society, we depend primarily on membership dues to support a growing number of activities and prizes. Therefore, we have adopted what we believe is the most fair model for our society.

We have a discounted membership fee for student members and we are committed to maintaining the current low dues of retired people and the unemployed.  We also have a membership category for those holding non-tenure track jobs (including, e.g., lecturers, contingent faculty members, and visiting assistant professors) in order to encourage and facilitate their participation.  Members experiencing extenuating circumstances and who believe that their dues should be waived for a limited period are encouraged to contact Daniel Sutherland at sutherla@uic.edu.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive regular updates about the Kantian community through the quarterly newsletter;
  • Submit papers to our various conferences and regional Study Groups;
  • Have access to papers accepted in our programs;
  • Compete for our prizes;
  • Be considered for the NAKS sessions at the APA conventions (two sessions per convention per year);
  • Access to the membership directory;
  • Access to the Newsletter history;
  • Access to Treasurer Reports.

Dues and donations are our only source of support, and we urge you to keep your membership up to date, so that we can expand the services to the Kantian community.
