The Herder Yearbook / Herder Jahrbuch is published every other year as the academic journal of the International Herder Society / Internationalen Herder-Gesellschaft (IHS). The next volume will appear in fall 2026. Central to the yearbook are scholarly contributions on Johann Gottfried Herder (1744-1803), his writings, and intellectual endeavors. Additionally, the yearbook publishes articles that shed light on texts and contexts by Herder’s contemporaries or on the reception and impact of Herder (from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century). The yearbook is open to current research contributions from a multitude of disciplines, including, but not limited to, literary and language studies, (historical) linguistics, philosophy, history, history of ideas and sciences, cultural studies, as well as political theory. Proposals for contributions may be submitted at any time in English, German, or French. The Herder Yearbook is a double-blind peer-reviewed publication. All submissions will be evaluated thoroughly by at least two scholars. At this time, the editors of the Herder Yearbook, Rainer Godel (German Academy for Language and Literature), Johannes Schmidt (Clemson University), and Rachel Zuckert (Northwestern University), request proposals for articles (on rare occasions also for reviews). We prefer for authors to come to a preliminary agreement with us concerning potential topics; thereafter, final drafts of submissions must be received by endofSeptember2025. Please note that confirmation of a proposed topic by the editors does not guarantee its publication. Only articles that meet the standards of the yearbook, and pass the peer review process, will be published. Further details about the Herder Yearbook are available at our homepage:
